Musey Goddess – Cyrinda Foxe

Sex Kittens Are Fat. They’re Fluffy – Cyrinda Foxe

I’ve always been fascinated by Muses. Not the daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne but the sources of inspiration for  artists. I don’t know why but started with one and I kind of just started collecting them. Pattie, Edie, Jane. Learning about them. One after the other, I just keep learning. Find someone else muse and learn all I could.

This week was one of my favorites birthday – She would have been sixty five.

She was born Kathleen Hetzekian but I think  she suited Cyrinda Foxe more.

She left California, lived in Texas briefly before moving to New York City where she become an assistant to Greta Garbo and went on to be a publicist for MainMan, David Bowie’s management company.

She was associated with Andy Warhol’s crowd and appeared in Warhol’s film Bad. Was frequently seen at Max’s Kansas City. She married  New York Dolls singer David Johansen in 1977, then left him after a year to marry Steven Tyler.

Most importantly she was mother to the beautiful Mia Tyler.

This is how I found Cyrinda Foxe through Mia’s biography Creating Myself

It was a very interesting to learn about someone through the eyes of their child. Not only a parent but a parent with a rock n roll lifestyle.

Although that lifestyle is glamorous and Cyrinda loved a glamorous life, just like Wonderland. There are some rabbit holes that you can fall down.

Life is what it is and personally I don’t believe in mistakes, only lessons.

Learning more about Cyrinda, as I did. She was a force of nature. She had effervescence about her, she was very magnetic. Inspired a lot of love and a lot of music, as any great muse does.

There is something about the people that know they are only here for a short time, that know they only have one life and they live it wildly and memorably. I am always fascinated by those people. The ones you can’t get stuck in a cage because their spirit and their personality is just too big.  Even if you stuck them in a cage, they would break out and fly away anyhow. I have always adored people like that.

Bowie wrote a few songs about her – one of them being “Lorraine” –

No one took their eyes off Lorraine, She shimmered and she strolled like a Chicago moll, Her leathers looked better and better – it was so-so .

Cyrinda was a heavy influence on Bowie during the first US Ziggy Stardust Tour with Bowie wearing her clothes, imitating her makeup and incorporating some of her gestures in his stage act.

When New York Doll David Johansen first saw her at Max’s Kansas City, he wanted her in a heartbeat he wrote the song “Looking For A Kiss” Their romance was the envy of everyone.

When she was diagnosed with a brain tumor, everybody who had ever loved her, any soul that she had ever touched helped with a fundraiser at the famous CBGB’s . Bands played and there was an audition at pay for medical expensive

One thing is for sure, through the ups and downs Cyrinda inspired nothing but love wherever she went.

She inspires people long after her death. That is the mark of a beautiful soul.

Jim Morrison once said – I see myself as a huge fiery comet, a shooting star. Everyone stops, points up and gasps “Oh look at that!” Then- whoosh, and I’m gone…and they’ll never see anything like it ever again… and they won’t be able to forget me- ever.”

I can think of no better way to describe Ms Cyrinda Foxe
