Music Monday: Oh Honey

When a mutual friend had an idea of a guy-girl duo, I doubt anybody had an idea that this band would turn the world on its head. A friend sent Mitchy Collins a video of Danielle Bouchard  singing, “I Can’t Make You Love Me” by Bonnie Raitt and the rest is musical history.

This magical duo “write songs about their lives, loves and everything in-between” They named themselves partly after a How I Met Your Mother  episode  and have been featured on Glee. Its not surprising that I found them through a cinematic avenue.  A song that was used movie called The Road Within . A song called Get It Right

You know those songs that make you feel good and bring a smile to your face. This is one of them

Not surprising since the band describe their sound as optimistic , maybe because they are a mix of all things good being a generous mix of  folk pop, indie pop, and pop music.. They released their EP With Love not once but twice in 2014. Clearly it wasn’t just the movie and television world that was paying attention. Oh Honey become the opening act to James Blunt, The Fray, and American Authors

They could never be accused of piggybacking off the mainstream folk revival. I like to think Oh Honey, give that world a little bit of sparkle and a lighter heart. Their single Be Okay is an anthem for many to simply keep going no matter the circumstance

In an industry where most things sound alike. The songs that climb the charts at such a fast pace are about break ups, trashing ex-boyfriends and treating each other poorly. Maybe Oh Honey is the revolution we all need

Their second EP, Sincerely Yours. It’s a bit darker drawing the influence from the disconnection and loneliness that can be found while on tour but somehow never losing their a light at the end of the tunnel signature touch

They are completely unique in style, message and heart. It’s not about the money, the tour schedule, how many likes you get on a picture on your Instagram or awards ceremonies. It is actually about connecting with people.  Helping people get through whatever challenge they are facing.

And at the end of the day

How could you not want to be a part of something like that?
